The President examined the new Malaya hydroelectric power station next to the Gissrac reservoir

A new small hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 3.5 MW was built near the Gissrac reservoir in the Shakhrisabz district, which will produce up to 17.5 million kWh of electricity annually. The President examined the station and got acquainted with the construction plans of 416 micro-gas heating systems with kinetic turbines in Kashkadarya.

On June 19, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during a trip to the Kashkadaryinsky region, visited a new small hydroelectric power station built next to the Gissrac reservoir in the Shakhrisabz district.

The new station with a capacity of 3.5 MW will annually produce up to 17.5 million kWh of electricity. This will provide electricity to about 7300 households and save up to 5 million cubic meters of natural gas per year. The project was implemented at the expense of completely localized resources (with the exception of the hydrogenerator, which was produced in China), its cost amounted to 1.5 million dollars, the report said.

The Gissarak reservoir was built in 1987 and reconstructed in 2004. Since 2011, the main hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 45 MW has been operating here, which annually produces about 80 million kWh of electricity - this is enough to cover the needs of about 33 thousand households.

According to Uzbekhydroenergo, in the next two years, the country is planned to build 416 micro-gas heating systems with kinetic turbines with a total capacity of 12 MW. These installations will use water flows in arski and channels, which is especially true for regions with a developed irrigation network.

In the Kashkadarya region, there are currently three hydroelectric power stations with a total capacity of 49 MW. According to calculations, due to new projects, the share of hydropower in the coating of the needs of the region’s population can grow to 15%.

In general, according to the government, over the past eight years, electricity production in Uzbekistan has increased by 38% and reached 81.5 billion kWh. In 2024, it is planned to put into operation five more small hydroelectric power stations throughout the country with a total capacity of 24.7 MW.

According to the Presidential Decree, for two years in Uzbekistan it is planned to build 2983 microePPs, which should provide an electricity of 280 thousand of the population. Entrepreneurs will be involved in construction.
