Rosatom and Uzatom are working on a contract for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. According to the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, a site has already been chosen for the construction of the station – near Lake Tuzkan in the Jizzakh region. Engineering surveys have been completed on it and its suitability for the construction of a nuclear power plant has been confirmed.
In addition, the optimal technical configuration of the project has been determined.
"Now, together with the Uzbek customer and international experts, technical issues are being worked out on the integration of nuclear power plants into the energy system, working in conjunction with renewable energy sources, reducing water volumes for the operation of the plant, maximizing electricity generation taking into account the climatic conditions of the site," the minister said.
Recall that the agreement on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan was signed by Abdullah Aripov and Dmitry Medvedev in September 2018.
In May 2019, a contract was signed with Atomstroyexport JSC, part of the engineering division of Rosatom State Corporation, to carry out engineering and survey work for the development of a technical project.
