Measures for the further development of small and micro hydropower are presented

President Shavkat Mirziyoyevgot acquaintedwith a presentation of further measures to develop a network of small and micro hydroelectric power stations.

Design and construction of micro hydroelectric power stations with a capacityup to 100 kWwill be carried out in a simplified manner. Projects with capacityup to 50 kWwill be exempt from the examination of urban planning documentation and state architectural and construction supervision.

It will be allowed to change the design of canals, rivers and channels to create additional water pressure. The construction of small and micro hydroelectric power plants at water management facilities for their own needs will also be allowed without an auction.

A digital platform will be introduced, covering all processes - from identifying suitable sites for projects to launching and operating facilities. In addition, a unified methodological manual for design, construction and operation will be developed, as well as a procedure for implementing projects with the participation of the private sector.

Another pressing problem remains the industry’s high import dependence. Currently, 90 percent of the hydraulic units and components required for small and micro hydroelectric power plants are imported from abroad.

In this regard, the importance of using the experience of the Uzbekhydroenergo joint stock company was noted, which built 46 small and micro hydroelectric power stations,as well as providing entrepreneurs with comprehensive services for design, construction and installation work and supply of equipment. A specific list of hydraulic units and components, the production of which can be localized, will be compiled. Relevant proposals will be presented to entrepreneurs and investors.

Total lengthThe network of rivers and canals in the country exceeds 173 thousandkilometers. During the presentation, the significant potential for the construction of small and micro hydroelectric power stations on concrete-lined canals was noted. The responsible departments have been instructed to conduct a complete inventory of such facilities and identify reserves for the implementation of additional projects.

Generallyby 2030plannedincrease the capacity of such stations to 204.8 megawattsAndensure the annual production of 620 million kilowatt-hours of environmentally friendly electricity. This will ensure“green” energy for 350 thousand households, annually saving 187 million cubic meters of natural gas and preventing emissions of 311 thousand tons of carbon dioxide.

In addition, starting from the new academic year, a dual education system will be introduced to train highly qualified personnel in the field of small-scale “green” energy. Energy enterprises, including small hydropower facilities, will become practical bases for students.
