In Tashkent, the first plant for the processing of medical waste into energy was launched

On August 25, in the 16th city infectious diseases hospital of the Chilanzar district of Tashkent, an ECO-300 installation and launch of the first plant in the country for processing medical waste in thermal energy took place. So far, the installation works in a trial and practical mode.

The project was implemented by the American company Sayar in the implementation of the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan No. 263 of July 17, 2024. It is aimed at introducing the principle of “zero waste” and the development of environmentally friendly technologies in medicine.

Investment and scale of the project
At the first stage, designed for 2024–2025, $ 7 million was invested. An annual processing of 6 thousand tons of waste from the medical facilities of Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara regions is planned. Installations will produce up to 20 GW · h thermal energy.

From the second stage (2026–2030), investments will amount to $ 108 million, power will grow to 90 thousand tons of waste per year and 300 GW of energy.

How the installation works
The factor of the plant Nikolai Nikolaevich said that the insiner is capable of burning up to 300 kg of waste per hour at a temperature of 950–1150 ° C. In the process of gases, several stages of cleaning are held:
The catalytic reactor burns small particles,
Endigator with a 10% alkali solution neutralizes acids and harmful impurities,
The hose filter delays the ash,
The absorbing filter removes smells.

- In the first chamber, the waste is burned at a temperature of 950 to 1150 degrees. Large ash settles into a ash, and smoke gases pass through a catalytic reactor and a filter system. The alkaline solution neutralizes acids, the sleeve and absorbing filters delay particles and smells, ”he said.

“As a result, clean air enters the atmosphere without impurities and smell. Additionally, heat after burning will be supplied to the hospital for heating and hot water, ”the specialist said.

The main types of medical waste that utilizes eco-300:
plastic consumables (syringes, drops for droppers, packaging from drugs);
rubber products (gloves, tubes, catheters);
elements of medical equipment from light metals;
dressings, disposable robes, masks and other personal protective equipment;
Biologically hazardous waste (materials contacting with blood and bio -water).

Environmental friendliness and benefit
Toxic emissions are minimized.
Installation destroys viruses and toxins.
The remainder of ash is only 5-10%, safe for disposal.
Generates energy, reducing heating costs.
Social effect
The company created 60 new jobs. In the near future, such plants will also appear in the clinics of Tashmi and the Tashkent Pediatric Institute.
