IAEA Director General plans visit to Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan, Tashkent – Podrobno.uz News Agency. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi is planning to visit Uzbekistan, where he will hold a series of talks to strengthen bilateral cooperation, a Podrobno.uz correspondent reports.

This issue was discussed at a meeting between Grossi and the Director of the Atomic Energy Agency of Uzbekistan Azim Akhmedkhadjaev on September 17 in Vienna. The exact dates of the visit are not yet known.

During the talks, the parties also discussed the project to build a low-power nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. It was noted that preliminary work has already begun in cooperation with Rosatom and in full compliance with IAEA recommendations. A trilateral approach to the project guarantees compliance with international safety standards.

The talks took place on the sidelines of the 68th session of the IAEA General Conference, which will last until September 20. Here, the head of the Uzatom Agency presented a presentation on the work done and plans of Uzbekistan in the field of nuclear energy.

The Uzatom management also held working meetings with representatives of the French companies Framatome and Assystem, the China National Nuclear Corporation, and the state corporation Rosatom. The parties discussed the prospects for further bilateral cooperation in the field of nuclear science and technology.

It should be noted that Uzbekistan became a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 1994.
