By 2030, it is planned to build 4.5 GW of electricity storage facilities in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan plans to triple the total capacity of electricity storage systems in the next four years, shouldfrom a release from the Department of Energy.

The first battery complexes in the countryearnedon the territory of Fergana and Andijan regions in December 2024. Their total power was 300 MW, and their energy intensity was 600 MWh.

In 2025, several more systems with a capacity of 1245 MW and an energy intensity of 1600 MWh were put into operation. Currently, the Uzbek energy system operates battery complexes with a capacity of 1545 MW, designed to store 2600 MWh simultaneously.

The installed capacity of energy storage devices exceeds 13.5% of the evening maximum load on the power system. Every eighth kilowatt-hour consumed during peak hours can be supplied by them.

The use of battery systems ensures the effective integration of solar and wind power plants into the overall energy system, the Ministry of Energy emphasized. They also make it possible to reduce gas consumption and the number of starts of thermal generating capacities.

This year it is planned to expand the total capacity of energy storage systems to 2 GW, and energy intensity to 3600 MWh. By 2030, the goal is to increase the capacity of battery systems to 4.5 GW.

According to the Ministry of Energy, there are 15 solar power plants with a total capacity of 3,930 MW and 5 wind farms with a total capacity of 1,652 MW in Uzbekistan. In the first four and a half months theyproduced4 billion kWh of green energy.
