Uzbekistan took part in the session of the IAEA General Conference
The delegation of Uzbekistan took part in the 70th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which was held on September 14–18 in Vienna. This was reported by the information service of the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety.
Representatives of 181 IAEA member states took part in the work of the international forum. The conference agenda included issues of nuclear and radiation safety, the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes, international cooperation, and the improvement of regulatory practice.
On the sidelines of the session, the Chairman of the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety, Abduvakos Rafikov, held a number of bilateral meetings with foreign colleagues.
In particular, during talks with the head of Hungary`s regulatory authority, Andrea Beatrix Kadar, and the head of Belarus`s regulatory authority, Alexander Ivanitsky, issues of ensuring nuclear and radiation safety, state regulation of the industry, and the exchange of best practices were discussed.
Special attention was paid to issues of effective oversight, licensing, inspection activities, radiation monitoring, and emergency preparedness.
In Uzbekistan, work continues to improve the national regulatory framework in the field of the use of atomic energy.
The Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety is tasked with carrying out state supervision over compliance with safety requirements, licensing, and updating the relevant regulatory and legal framework.
The establishment of the Scientific and Technical Center for Radiation and Nuclear Safety under the Committee has expanded the possibilities for scientific and expert support of the industry.
The bilateral meetings held within the framework of the session became part of Uzbekistan`s work to further develop the national system of nuclear and radiation safety, taking into account international standards and advanced global practice.
