The general plan for Tashkent was presented to the president: the capital will be divided into three zones.

Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the general plan for Tashkent on October 9, which is planned to be divided into three zones, according to the president's press service.

The capital will be divided into a conservation zone, where the preservation of cultural heritage sites and historical locations will be ensured; a reconstruction zone, where construction will take place based on master plans; and a renovation zone, where new buildings will be constructed in place of dilapidated housing.

It was noted that the air temperature in Tashkent has increased by one degree over the past 10 years. On some days, the level of pollutants in the atmosphere exceeds the norm.

In response, it is planned to triple the area of green zones in Tashkent and its surroundings, bringing it to 25,000 hectares. This will increase the area of green space per capita from the current 3 square meters to 6 square meters.

“The head of our state emphasized the necessity of transforming Tashkent into a major metropolis with favorable living and working conditions for at least 7.5 million people. Instructions were given to develop the Kibray, Zangiata, Yukorichirchik, Urtachirchik, and Tashkent districts of the Tashkent region based on a unified agglomeration with the capital,” the president's website stated.

It is worth noting that, according to the relevant decree issued by the president on August 17, 2018, an international competition should have been announced for the development of the general plan for the city of Tashkent.

Earlier, Kun.uz reported that the World Bank recommended Uzbekistan invest in reducing emissions.
