Electric Renaissance: construction of three power facilities has started in Namangan region
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the launch ceremony of the construction of a cascade of hydroelectric power plants and two solar power plants in Namangan region. So far, there are 913 megawatts of electricity generating capacity in this region, but consumption is constantly growing. It has increased by 24 percent in the last three years alone, and it will continue to grow.
Ahead of the upcoming shortage, three power plants worth $ 1.1 billion were designed for the region, with a combined capacity of 1,228 megawatts. These are a cascade of hydroelectric power plants and two solar power plants.
The cascade of the HPP will be built by Uzbekhydroenergo joint-stock company. The project will cost $434 million. With this money, 6 hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 228 megawatts will be built on the Naryn River in the Uychinsky district. They will be able to generate up to 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, which will save 310 million cubic meters of gas and provide electricity to 430 thousand households.
It is also important that the equipment produced in our country will be used in the construction of the HPP. Thus, these will be the first hydroelectric power plants that can be called completely domestic. They will employ 133 people, and during the construction period — 4,000 people.
One of the two solar power plants will be built in the Papal district by the German company Hyper Partners GmbH. Its capacity will be 500 megawatts. The project will cost $350 million, and the power plant will be able to produce 1.095 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.
The second power plant will also be built in Papa, but it will be built by the Emirati company Tepelen Group Holding Limited. The project will cost the same 350 million dollars, the capacity of the second power plant is the same as the first.
Both power plants are planned to be put into operation during this year. They will create 120 permanent jobs.
The total generating capacity of Namangan region will grow thanks to these projects to 2,141 megawatts, and the annual volume of electricity generated will reach 7.8 billion kilowatt-hours. And the demand of the region so far is 5.5 billion kilowatt-hours. The remaining 30 percent will be redirected to the neighbors — to the Andijan and Ferghana regions.
The President pressed a symbolic button and launched the construction of the listed projects.
Creating conditions for a prosperous life for our people is one of the foundations of the policy of the New Uzbekistan. To do this, it is important to launch projects in a timely manner, for the sustainable operation of which an uninterrupted power supply is necessary. In this sense, today's ceremony is a historic event. Congratulations to all of you on such new projects and initiatives," Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
It was also said at the ceremony that next year the Papal and Uychinsky districts will launch electricity storage systems with a total capacity of 200 megawatts. This will help to balance the unified energy system during periods of increased energy consumption and ensure a stable supply of electricity. Also in 2025, 14 solar and wind power plants will be completed, which will add 2.6 gigawatts of power to the network.
